Extractions
- Have liquids or soft foods for the first few days after the tooth has been extracted.
- Do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol as it affects the healing time.
- Avoid using a sucking motion, such as through a straw, because it can dislodge the blood clot and cause a dry socket.
- Take all prescribed medications as directed, including antibiotics and painkillers.

Dental Hygiene
Here at the Nina Kiani, DMD practice, we urge our patients to take good care of their teeth, including focusing on proper dental hygiene. Dental hygiene is important for a variety of reasons, including keeping the teeth and gums clean, protecting oral health, preventing infections and other dental issues, and having fresh breath. Dental hygiene includes brushing and flossing twice a day, and using fluoride in their toothpaste and mouthwash. It also includes visiting us twice a year for a check-up and professional cleaning.
Most of our patients know to brush their teeth regularly, but may not have the right technique. Dr. Nina Kiani offers education for proper brushing technique. This includes brushing their teeth with the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle, brushing their tongue to remove bacteria, cleaning the insides of the teeth and tilting the brush vertically to reach these places of the teeth, and brushing in wide strokes. By using these important techniques and focusing on all areas of dental hygiene, our patients have excellent oral health and prevent more serious complications.
If you are due (or past due) for your six month dental exam and cleaning, call our office in New York, NY at (212) 279-8770 to schedule your appointment.

Dental Implants
Dental Implants
Accidental tooth loss and dental extractions can leave unwanted gaps in your smile. Fortunately, there are several ways to restore your natural appearance and your oral health at our practice. One of the best ways to accomplish this is with dental implants. The office of Dr. Nina Kiani has a periodontist who is highly skilled at implant procedures.
Dental implants are a realistic and natural looking prosthetic that is rooted directly to your jawbone. Since the base of the implant is securely fitted to your jaw, they provide patients with a restorative solution that looks and feels just like a real tooth. After the base of the implant has healed, a crown can be attached, providing a beautiful smile solution that blends in with the appearance of your teeth.
There are several benefits to restoring your smile with dental implants. They are stable, long lasting and natural looking. If you are interested in learning more about how dental implants can benefit your smile, please visit our website.
