Digital X-Rays

We believe that early detection is the best way to treat our patients. With that being said, we have adopted digital X-ray technology into our practice. Digital radiography will better allow us to diagnose and treat patients the right way, the first time around.

Digital X-ray technology offers many benefits over traditional X-rays. The biggest difference is the amount of radiation it emits, about 80 percent less than traditional machines. While the radiation in traditional X-rays is not necessarily harmful, it’s never a good idea to expose someone to any type of radiation.

Another great benefit of digital radiography is the immediacy of it. You don’t have to wait for the image to develop anymore. Right after the image is taken it is immediately displayed on a bedside monitor. This greatly cuts down on patient chair-time. The instant imaging software is a great way for us to “Go Green” because there’s no harmful chemicals used to develop the images and the image itself is not printed so there is no waster there. The image is displayed on an environmentally friendly monitor that files it away with your personal records for future use without printing.

In many cases, digital X-rays are able to detect early stages of tooth decay where traditional X-rays would not. The image we get is far more detailed than other imaging software. Catching decay early can prevent cavities, gum disease and other periodontal issues. By getting to these symptoms earlier, our staff is better equipped to stop it now and even prevent it in the future.

Veneers

Dental veneers are perfect for patients hoping to redesign and reshape their smile with a simple, non-invasive procedure. Those with misaligned, chipped or broken teeth are great candidates for this procedure. We provide our patients with the opportunity to repair their smile with dental veneers.

There are many types of veneers available. At our practice, we utilize ceramic veneers. Ceramic veneers cover the existing tooth structure. The process by which veneers are installed takes two to three visits. In the first visit, Dr. Kiani will consult with you to determine if you are a candidate for veneers. Once approved, Dr. Kiani will give you a set of options such as what size, shape and color the veneers will be. The molding process will then begin. This process consists of removing half a millimeter of the enamel from your tooth surface so the veneers are flush with the gum line. We will then take a mold of the teeth and have veneers structured at a dental lab. Creation of the veneers takes approximately 10-14 days.

Once the veneers are ready, they will be fitted into the patient’s mouth to see if the shade is correct and to gauge the size. The veneers will then be trimmed to assure a permanent fit. We will then thoroughly clean the area and etch the teeth before applying the bonding agent. Once the bonding agent is applied, the veneer will be placed in the mouth and the bonding agent will be activated by a UV light source. The final step in the process involves a thorough inspection of the area Dr. Kiani will examine your bite, remove any excess cement and make any final adjustments.

Teeth Whitening Options

With hundreds of teeth whitening options available, it can be difficult to determine which method will work best for your exact needs. Your smile is often the first thing people notice about you, so ask yourself, are you making a good first impression with your smile? It doesn’t matter whether you choose to go with over-the-counter products or come into our office for a whitening procedure, we’re happy to help because we want you to do it the right way.

When you come in for a consultation, we want to first determine if your teeth are intrinsically or extrinsically stained. Intrinsic stains are on the surface, having barely penetrated the enamel. They are caused by coffee, smoking and aging. These stains are reversible through bleaching.  Extrinsic stains develop from the inside of the teeth and are often caused by different antibiotics and other permanent staining agents. The teeth are darkened as a result of bacteria buildup and cannot be reversed by whitening alone. In this case, we would suggest veneers as a way to improve your smile.

For those whose teeth are intrinsically stained, we are happy to provide insight into which whitening treatment would work best for you. At our New York, NY dental office, we offer an in-office whitening procedure that can improve your smile up to 10 shades in less than an hour. This professionally applied whitening solution is a powerful concentration of peroxide that can only be administered by a professional. We also offer custom take-home tray whitening. We will take a mold of your teeth and fit you with custom-made tray system that is worn while you sleep. You will see gradual improvement, whitening at your own pace. We will also offer advice regarding over-the-counter whitening products. This ranges from toothpaste all the way to surface strips. While these options take more time, it allows you to whiten whenever you want.

Restorative Options

While most dental practices offer a very narrow scope of procedures, we have established a full-service dental practice that specializes in preventative, restorative and cosmetic dental procedures. If you are hoping to restore your smile after an accident, you should be aware of the many options we have available to fix their smile.

With restorative dentistry, we are able to replace or restore missing teeth or missing parts of the tooth structure. Tooth structure can be damaged due to decay, deterioration of a previously placed restoration or the tooth could fracture. We offer the following restorative dental procedures at our New York, NY office:
  • Bonding
  • Bridges
  • Crowns
  • Dentures
  • Inlays and Onlays
The goal of restorative dentistry is to preserve your natural teeth as much as possible. Procedures like inlays and onlays, partial dentures, bridges and bonding all utilize your existing teeth to assist in the restoration. We will always do the best we can to preserve your natural teeth. In cases where we cannot, full dentures might be necessary.

Most people do not know that a missing tooth can cause serious damage to your mouth. When a tooth a missing, the rest of your teeth will begin to shift, causing them to become misaligned. When teeth become misaligned, they become more difficult to clean. When you can't properly clean your teeth, they become decayed, putting you at a high risk for periodontal disease. Missing teeth also put extra stress on your remaining natural teeth because you don't have as much surface area to chew with.

If you are missing any teeth, consider restorative treatments with Dr. Nina Kiani. She will get your teeth back to proper working order, allowing you to have a happy and healthy mouth for years to come.
